I can't answer your questions about "less fussy" and parts cost since I have never owned a 9000 and our Saabs were always under warranty. I do consider the 9-5 a real Saab, though! If you want "fussy" and parts problems, that would be our 1974 99LE...
We owned a 2003 LInear which we traded on a 2005 Aero, both sticks. The Aero has better front seats (ours has ventilated seats), and a heated rear seat, while the Linear had neither. Clearly, the Aero is faster, but there is little difference just poking around town, and the fuel mileage is the same. The only downside to the Aero is a little stiffer ride (not bad, though), and lower ground clearance, which means it's more likely to scrape the spoiler on driveway entrances. All in all, though, our Aero is a terrific car. Good luck with your search, and stick with the stick!
John.
