Sticks hard to find.....autos are better in 9-5's Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Sat, 8 Mar 2008 13:56:51 In Reply to: School me on 9-5 aero wagons...., earthbrown, Sat, 8 Mar 2008 09:39:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The automatic is so good in a 9-5 that sticks are even harder to find than normal. SportWagons all by themselves have less sticks than normal vs sedans too.
Many a die hard stick driver has gone to the dark side and selected "D" with a 9-5. The stick is only an average one, that is the linkage isn't as good as many. The automatic is world class, and especially well suited to the low rpm turbo torque of the 9-5 Aero motor. And a 9-5 auto is pretty much bullet proof as it's built by Aisin Warner. Stick drivers are especially pleased that the automatic, when one selects the sport mode, mimics the highe rpm shift points and anticipates and allows downshifts at part throttle that makes the automatic satisfying even for die hard stick drivers. Try one.
I would expand your search to include 2000's as 2000 and 2001 are virtually identical. It's the 2002 that received the Mid Cycle Enhancement that particularly graced the Aero with the killer sport seats. 2002 also got a 5 speed auto, and a mild restyling of the nose and tail. 2002 and 2003 are identical, except that 2003 got shift paddles on the steering wheel to control the 5-speed auto. 2004's got a new front spoiler under the bumper line and 2004 and 2005's were the same. There are some smaller detail features like the weatherband on the radio and the umbrella holders in the B pillars that were deleted or "decontented" from the 2004's and up, but it's really nothing of consequence.
I own a 2000 and I drove the new ones all the time and there was nothing not to like about my old one vs the newer MCE cars of 2002 and up, except maybe for the killer sport seats.
