I drive a 2001 9-5 Sport Wagon, Linear. Mine is a 5-speed. My other SAAB is a 1990 SPG. I find the 9-5 to be a bit cushier than the 900, and much easier to drive. It's quiet and cool in the summer (I live in Texas), and quite reliable. It's really been a joy of a car.
I do have the 17 Aero rims, but the ride is still luxurious when compared to the SPG. (The SPG still has hatch loads of character, I'd choose it over the 9-5 any day). I think the Linear is planty quick, especially after a good car wash. I would surely not hesitate to buy a Linear again.
My sister has a 9-5 sedan, Linear. Hers is Automatic. With the sport mode, I'm sure it is quicker (and more fun) than my 5-speed manual wagon (Don't tell the Sport Wagon I said that...)
