Car stalled one day at speed. Day later CEL came on (no blinking) so I made appointment to indie shop (Swedish Motors). They are doing stage 6 upgrade. In diagnosing problems (I got a code of P1230 at home) they discovered that the TB had failed, or was failing. Said it was covered with oil. Said that oil is coming from turbo and that also is now failing (though I have good pressure) due to seals in turbo letting oil past. One cause could be sludge from poor maintenance or dirty oil ruining the seals in the turbo that is allowing oil to get to the TB. They will check when things are apart. It's got 47k on the clock. I've only had it a few months. Have some receipts from previous owner that indicate a few oil changes with full synthetic and a couple of other things repaired.
Shop is saying about $2200 parts and labor for stage 6, TB, and turbo.
Questions:
- price about right?
- any preventative maintenance in future? I always change oil every 3k with synthetic
- if sludge is found, is there a way to clean? I've done the research and am wondering if they clean the pick up screen, etc. and I do routing oil changes at 3k with full synthetic, what's likely to happen in future?
Would prefer not to unload the car. I love it. Right color.
Appreciate all the help. I knew this car was too good to be true. But, I took the risk.
