I'm being told that there is excessive oil making it past the turbo (my words, not theirs) and is being caused by the seals in the turbo failing. The are giving me a 2 year 24000 mile warranty on the work (parts and labor). They offered to do just the TB, but said that with all the oil making it's way through the turbo, it's likely to ruin the TB again and as a result couldn't warranty just the TB. They are planning on checking for sludge in the oil feed lines to the turbo, depending on what that shows, they'll drop the pan and check/clean.
It is a reputable shop. Long history with Saabs. Though not my normal mechanic.
Ok, I was just looking through my service receipts that came with the car and it appears as though the CEL was on before and the car was running rough (at idle). They cleaned the TB and noticed that the TB was very dirty as noted on the service receipt. Appears as though the IGN cassett and IDM (whatever that is) were replaced at some point as well. The TB was "pretty dirty" and cleaned at 43k miles. Now only 4k miles later it's dirty again and loaded up with oil.
