There really isn't a printed manual. The electronic version, WIS, is often available on-line on this list. Search for it, and if it's not on the distributing site any longer, post directly to the guy who put it up there, maybe he'll do it again for you.
The Garret turbo would indeed be very unreliable on the Aeros - the holes might not even line up! The Aeros used the Mitsubishi turbo, and it has proven very reliable.
About the only sure ways to deal with sludge are to disassemble and "hot tank" the motor, or install Bob Bright's trick oil pan, which features a removeable cover under the pickup screen which allows you to clean it with every oil change.
Attempts to clean sludge with oil additives, etc., have proven ineffective. There is always more than comes out.
