I don't know how I missed this post in my searches but it's exactly what I needed. http://saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9-5/index.html?bID=43729
Off I went, flashlight in hand to check out my set up and it matches the description perfectly right down to the steel bracket that wraps around the bumper. I suppose I can't see the three bolts holding the bumper to the frame unless I remove the bumper cover but I assume that if someone went to the trouble of removing the bumper to put on new brackets, then they would have done the rest of the job right too.
I'm starting to think that the hitch hasn't changed at all over the years, just the stamp that they put on it changed stating the max load. In older model years, the stamp would say 2000 lbs to match the manual. In newer model years, it would say 3500 lbs to match the newer manual. I have a very early MY 2001 (actually built late 2000) which might have had an older hitch put on left over from the days when the manual said 2000 lbs. Just a suspicion.
I sure feel a lot better now about not leaving my bumper in the parking lot after reading the above mentioned post:) Thanks!
