I am the expert on V6 SAI systems. Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Thu, 4 Dec 2008 18:32:28 In Reply to: SAI Pump - 2000 9-5SE V6 - Source?, Jeff S, Thu, 4 Dec 2008 17:43:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Mine crapped out over the summer but was not due to water inside. The impeller actually sucked in the air filter and broke a bunch of teeth on the fan. I bought a used pump from Elite Foreign Auto for $75 shipped from CA to CT. Everywhere else I called wanted $150. Elite Foreign Auto was awesome, I would definitely recommend them. I guarantee you that one or both of the SAI valves on your car are shot though. Follow the tube from the pump to the engine and you'll find the valves in between; one on each cylinder bank. That's the only way these things fill up with water. The moisture from the exhaust gets into them. I replaced my front valve a couple weeks ago and it was SHOT. WIS said to take apart a lot of stuff but I was able to get in there from below the car and had my father guide on the socket at the end of a few extensions and a universal joint. This is definitely a DIY job, replacing the pump took me about a half hour. VERY straight forward. Check out the link for some pictures and a write-up I did about the SAI system. Don't hesitate to ask more questions if I was unclear about anything. Good luck!
And yes, the 4-cyl doesn't have the SAI system. The 2003 9-3 sport sedans had them and their valves always fail and kill the pump. For those the labor is much more because the stuff is very inaccessible. So yes, the V6 SAI is super simple.
