When your home market gets sunlight for only 5-6 hours per day in the winter, extra lights are your friend. Over in Sweden, "Moose lights" are on better than 50% of the cars. Judicious use of "Extraljus" (extra lights) is the first defense against moose or other obstacles in the road.
Sweden is a wonderful country, but quite different from the urban sprawl of the US. "Rural" begins literally at the outskirts of town. Tertiary roads (outside of cities) are usually unpaved and unlighted. You need high beam (main beams in Europe) headlights, and extra driving lights when you venture outside the city. Contrast to the US, where a great percentage of the population can drive their entire life without needing "high" beams.
Years back, I had some very impressive driving lights on my Classic 900. They were fantastic, especially on unlit rural roads in Pennsylvania. With these, I could see reflectors out to almost two miles, and almost anything a few hundred feet either side of the road. Important to spot the deer grazing in the fields BEFORE they wander across the road! I had these wired so they could only be on with the high beams, and shut down on low beam.
One thing, though, that people know in Sweden (and I practice when using "extraljus") is proper light etiquette. Aim all the lights properly, and dim them early when overtaking or approaching traffic head-on. I also rarely used bulbs of more than 55-60 watts. More is just not needed, when the light is thrown where you need it...
Of course with all those extra photons, people take notice when you "flash to pass" or flash that yokel who didn't dim his lights (even across the median of an interstate...).
