Long time ago, my old mechanic said that all A/C systems leak. It's just the nature of them. Put a complicated system together with lots of kinks, connections, and moving parts, fill it with highly pressurized and volatile gas, and there is no way it will be 100% air tight. It will always leak slowly. That's why there is so many recharge products - every car needs a top-up/refill once in a while.
Now that said, it shouldn't leak in one year. These systems should hold enough refrigerant for A/C to work properly for about 4-5 years (I think). If you need to recharge it like this, then you're fine. But if you fill it up in the spring and your A/C barely works in August - you definitely have a leak you need to take care of.
Cheers
