Congrats on finishing up! It must feel great! As for the ticking, my 2004 Aero which is in good health (as far as I know/hope) with 39k miles has a distinct ticking noise from the top end. It's pretty rapid, and like you said you can barely hear it with the hood closed. I am 99.9% sure it's the injectors opening and closing. If that makes you feel better...
As for SID repair. I would advise against any sort of DIY thing. I have yet to hear of anyone successfully DIYing their SID and having good results that last more than a week. I actually damaged my SID more by trying a DIY method because I had some success the first time, but after a week the pixels disappeared again. I took an iron to the ribbon cable again and fried it right off. BBA Reman can fix it if the ribbon is detached, but I don't know if Guy Senesac can. If your SID is untampered with I have heard good things about him. Just stay the &#*% away from Kramer Micro Repair. Don't get me started... I hope that guy scams the right person and gets taken away by the Mafia one of these days. :)
