Appreciate all the comments.. I have always DIY'd all my motorized vehicles since my first minibike I tore apart and put back together, just because.. at about 10 yrs old.. learned from an old timer who has recently passed away, Walter McKinney from Harpswell Maine.. that man could fix/rebuild anything and taught me basics and that most anything is rebuildable/possible.. I have rebuild many a motor and what have you in my days since, but it's been many years since I dug into a car motor and I had no experience with a smaller 4 cyl car motors and none at all with turbo, but it was amazingly similar to the 4 cyl Jap bike rice rockets I used to rebuild, tune and race.. those were the days.. still have my 1974 Kawi Z-1 900 in my garage that I first punched out to a 1015CC then went all out and built it to 1200CC with tons of racing goodies, race cams valves springs, etc., Kal Fab aluminum extended swing arm, gusseted the frame, new anadozid race rims, ported & polished, crank welded, gears undercut, 34MM Mikunis.. what a rocket that was/is.. couldn't keep the front wheel on the ground.. haven't had it running in 10 years, but that may be a good winter project to get back in action for next spring.. just feeling too old to ride around town on the real wheel again.. I remember my Mom's amazement as I had the motor all apart on my kitchen table and was baking the paint on the block and head in my apartment oven! used to drag race it every Friday at Oxford Plains in Maine many moons ago and blowing away modern rice rockets easily.. fun stuff..
Although I was apprehensive to tear into my 9-5 for starters, especially not knowing for certain if bottom end or other innards were toast, I enjoyed the whole process immensly and getting feedback on my many quandries I posted here was a tremendous help.. Thanks to all who helped me through the process.. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again, but certainly hope I don't have to do a repeat on this car anytime soon.. been driving it around today and it is smoother and quieter than when I bought it last June.. makes me smile!
Yep this car is giving me a run for my money, literally $$, but I like the ride and barring something extreme happening, hope to hit the qtr million mile mark! and the best part.. it's paid for!!
Regards and thanks to all again!
