I think it will come down to your test drive for each. However you did ask for opinions. Personally I would lean toward the BMW. I owned a 1999 328i for 6 years and the ownership experience was great. No issues with it and the dealership was always a pleasure to work with. Great fun to drive. The newer model designs don't appeal as much to me anymore. Good cars, though. My BMW was totalled when I was re-ended. Protected me and my 3 year old very well. I like the Audi styling better, but I do like to DIY as much as I can and the Audi frankly scares me. I hear they are difficult to work on and are expensive to service. I was able to do most work on my BMW when I had it. I do think MB have lightned up on some of the quility materials and that the reliability has gone down a little with some of the newer models.
There you go. That's my 2 cents.
