I would not want run flats when I am on a trip of over 100 miles from home in the evenings or on weekends when any tire shops that could fix these things may not be open. Other issues are the generally exhorbitent cost of replacing them, their notoriously short (20,000 miles) life expectancy, and of course the harder ride that those stiffer sidewalls all contribute to.
BMW going to standard run flats on their 3 and 5 series cars makes them a total non-starter in terms of my considering to ever buy a BMW.
