My own personal 9-5 experience is with 2 Saab wagons, a 2002 lpt and my current 2003 Aero:
Over the 3 years/100k I owned the 2002 I replaced the theft alarm, TWICE unit, water pump, turbo, DIC (total failure) 5(!) bent OE rims and more I'm sure I'm just not remembering. One of the least reliable cars I've owned, though it only actually stranded me once.
Over the 4 years/120k miles I've had the Aero I've replaced a window pulley and a DIC, which very politely warned me first, so I wasn't stranded. That's it, other than maintenance items, like brakes, tires + fluids. I'm holding on to this one.
Based on everything I read/hear, there are good Saabs and bad Saabs, more so than many other brands. And, at least among the Saab enthusiasts I know, they've always had this reputation.
