Hi Reg,
I like hanging around my Saab mechanic when he works on my car so that I can learn more about it. When my V6 alternator went, he was puzzled how to remove it as well. However, before pulling the driveshaft, one of his mechanics suggested lowering the front subframe a few inches to squeeze the alternator out. A few subframe bolts later and a stand to support the frame, the alternator was out in no time! I would definitely suggest this process before taking out the driveshaft assembly. The job literally was complete in less than 1.5 hours doing it this way. Hope this helps!
