My cost was "free" -- not including the time it took me to remove the siren unit myself. Jack up the front left of the car, remove the wheel, remove a few of those plastic nuts to allow you to peel back just a little bit of the wheel well liner.
The siren's on a bracket, one nut at the top and a screw at the bottom (or is it the other way around... the cable has a red snap-out tab, you'll see a little slot for a flat screwdriver to pry with, the tab comes out about 10mm or so, disengaging the connector.
I took out the siren module and wrapped the loose cable end in plastic and tape, just to make sure no weird electrical stuff happened with water/shorts/etc.
Each time I start up I get the "service theft alarm" message, I just push clear each time. Key fob works, but no chirping. I hear you can get that disabled with the Tech 2, but I was going for minimal cost.
2001, 9-5, 2.3t auto.
