Follow-up. I removed the fuse (helpful to unlock car first, I found), and survived without the alarm/AC for a week (it's cold here in Seattle anyway). I took it to my local Saab dealer (or former Saab dealer who still does maintenance) and they disabled the siren and put the fuse back in.
However, they said they were unable to get rid of the "service theft alarm" message. I mumbled something about how I read it was possible ("European car...") but they said that wouldn't work. At this point it's just an annoyance, but I'm wondering if there's a no-harm way to make sure that message doesn't come up every time I use the car?
I can find an independent mechanic with a Tech-II device (any pointers near Seattle?) if someone gives me explicit instructions.
