Plus one on the battery... Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Mon, 22 Nov 2010 10:57:13 In Reply to: typical dead battery symptoms, LesH, Sun, 21 Nov 2010 19:15:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just had this happen on my 2000 SE.
Car was run Saturday, 10/30, for a decent drive. No battery symptoms at all. Went to start it Tuesday 11/2, and it wouldn't start. I had to use the 9-5, and fortunately, my 1990 Volvo 740 turbo takes the same battery group size (in fact, the one in it was out of my first 9-5, and new in March of 2009).
So I swapped the batteries in a few minutes & drive the 9-5 exclusively for a week. Then bought a new battery (Autozone Duralast Group 48, like the one from the Volvo, dated 10/10) to replace the dead DieHard.
If the records the PO gave me are right, the DieHard was new in 2005, so it was time.
Age, plus the cold snap we had between the last time I ran it, and the next time I tried to drive it, were the major contributing factors.
Both Duralasts are running fine. In fact, the new one in the 9-5 survived a CPS failure (lots and lots of cranking) last Friday...
You may get by for a while without replacing it, but not for long.
