I remember my wife, in our '84 C900, coming up the hill we lived on before it had been plowed, in about 5" of fresh. No snow tires, just a set of Pirelli P8s that came with the car. The upper part of the hill was equivalent of a moderate intermediate ski trail. That car was a tank.
Now we have 4 snows on each of the two 9Ks, the 9-3 SE and the 9-5 wagon. I haven't driven the 9-3 in snow, but my kid has had no issues. I did drive the 9K and the 9-5 almost back to back in a nasty storm a coupla winters back and the 9-5 was pretty amazing with ESP turned on. Probably better than my 9K, but the 9K feels better to me. With the ESP off, though, I think the 9K is the better snow car. But I was deliberately trying to "push things" a little.
Have had the 9K in a couple of truly awful storms from Rochester NY to home in NH and it was great all the way.
It's just hard to go wrong with a Saab in winter.
