I'm always surprised at how much dealers will do for you to make a sale. We've had extra keys made, free nav discs, wheels refinished, etc... If you are indeed serious about buying the car, let them know that, but tell them you want to see the oil pickup screen before signing any papers. If you see it's clean, or it's blocked and they clean it for you, you should have a good car for a while as long as you make sure the PCV is updated and you change the oil on time. That is... if it's a 2.3t. If you're looking at an SE it's a V6 3.0t and you don't need to worry about sludge.
