there was an interesting thread along these lines a while back on the c900 bb. see link (unfortunately photo of crash is gone)...
one could argue that a side impact should be more concerning than rear impact (and that newer and/or bigger vehicles might be better). depends on the situation... is having 3 across in a wagon safer than 2 across (more centrally?) in 2 rows? not sure... that said, there was a very sad crash in the news here recently where a Volvo T-boned a modern Honda minivan pushing in the sliding door... I could only think that the 9-5's folding B pillar might have helped...
