I just noticed the 2011 Optima is available with a direct injection 2.0T, which makes it, on paper, comparable to the outgoing 9-5 aero in terms of performance (a decade later). So if that is what Christain_C is referring to, fair enough... Kia/Hyundai has done a lot with the Sonata platform to make it fairly comparable to a (og)9-5 and is winning some market share as a result. Of course the cars are getting closer to Saab price points also (can't get a turbo without the top trim level: cost is within $1-2k of a 9-3ss). Even the styling has improved (relative to hideous Kia models of the past) due to yoinking a designer from Audi (though imho, the interior is a mix of nice + hideous)... good for them! imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... if you copy enough bits from good cars, you may eventually end up with a decent enough car...
not my taste, but fair enough...
James...
