with a horizontally-mounted filter, about the best you can do is perhaps fill 1/4 of it. Actually, I just did that two days ago on the Arc, while the daughter was home for a college break, but not sure it makes that big of a difference.
At idle (hopefully that's where everybody keeps their engine for the first couple of minutes after an oil change), let's assume 3 gpm. I don't know what the SAAB oil pump does, but a quick google gets me 8-11 gpm at 3,500-5,200 rpm (various posts).
Doing some quick math, without the benefit of having a filter in front of me, I get the filter completely filled with oil in 3 seconds. That's assuming that an extended oil filter is maybe 3.5" dia, 4.5" long, 75% open (no media or other internal obstructions). Actually the 75% is probably too high.
