Connector & CPS fastener tip Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 19:57:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm getting ready to do my Crank Position Sensor and could NOT get the connector apart. Swedecar says they sometimes break. I got a can of Kroil and a 10cc syringe with a .8 mm dia needle from McMaster. I lubricated the sides of the connector where that red u-channel piece is inserted with about 0.5 cc of the penetrant. Waited about 2 minutes and then lightly pried with a screwdriver - presto - and no broken plastic! I also lubed the screw on the CPS sensor using the syringe. You can place penetrant very accurately this way. The screw loosened with NO issue. Beats trying to use an aerosol can with the little plastic tube.
To loosen the CPS screw I used a 1/4 inch ratchet, 1.5 inch extension and T30 Torx 1/4 inch driver. There were no clearance issues and no need for a wiggler or universal. Go from the top with the turbo heat shield off just like it says in the WIS.
