My indy referred to such a tool, but I've never seen one.
I cleaned and reassembled/reinstalled mine (2000 9-5 SE V6) last summer and left the selector in PARK. The instructions I have seen say the new ones come set to NEUTRAL and call for you to brace the shifter in Neutral so it does not move. The true test for alignment is if the back-up lights work and the car starts in both Park and Neutral. The space to work in on the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines are probably different. Look for the tutorials that others have written. The process for me was fairly easy once I finally made up my mind to do it. Looking at it you can "pysch" yourself out. The battery and battery tray both need to be removed and the V6 needs to have the trans dipstick pulled too. Be sure and clean all around the dipstick on the trans BEFORE you wiggle it out so nothing drops into the hole. See the link to my pictures in the gallery.
