I'm one who rebuilt his switch and posted photos. Before I did, I found that tapping the switch with a dowel rod was effective to get the car to start without waiting. My thought is that the spring-loaded contacts were sticking due to old grease as they rode over the raised plastic ridges between the gear contact ranges. All it took was one or two taps and the car started. However, the TCM signals became bad after that sometimes forcing limp-home on the trans;, so I started carrying my OBDII reader with me to reset the codes. I finally pulled the NSS and cleaned it the same weekend I rebuilt the SAI system (July 4th weekend in 2011). The switch has only malfuntioned once since then and the limp-home tranmission problem has not recurred. If the problem recurs and I can get a switch, I'll probably replace it. Meanwhile the car is running great, has no CEL and this summer was getting up to 25 mpg back and forth to work.
In the last 10 months I have learned more about my car's innards than I did in the past 11 years of ownership as I have tackled more of the repairs and maintence myself. I've capitalized on the pioneering work of others, but my experiecne is ONLY with my car. Still learning from the talented folks on this board and others.
