Be sure to check to see if you can actually register the car in California.
One of the crackpot DMV rules -- probably written by the car dealers themselves -- says that you can only bring a car into California if, among other details, as long as it meets California smog rules.

There are exceptions for vehicles with than 7500 miles on them. Anyway, you'll probably be able to get it registered but you'll have to get it smogged (no problem since Saabs are 50-state compliant) and then ensure that the bureaucrat you run into at the DMV has a clue.
Your other choice is to register and insure it in Utah with your son's address until you put 7500 miles on the clock.
