I bought a 2001 LPT wagon (auto) new that I put 44k on, had an '02 Aero sedan (manual) that I put 20k on, and now have an '07 Aero SC 60th (auto) that I got with 38k on it, it now has 57k.
I'll echo almost all sentiments - I had quite a bit of trouble with the '01, not much trouble with the '02, and very little trouble with the '07. Only thing the '07 has needed in the time I've had it was the heater control valve, it was replaced under warranty about 6 months ago. I love the feel of the '07 Aero, they've had time to properly sort a number of things which I think are pretty noticeable. The subframe bushings have been improved, the car is much more stable in corners on rough pavement than my previous two 9-5s, and the entire car seems more cohesive and put together. I put in new spark plugs and an air filter at 40k, the car quite liked that. I traded an '08 Mercedes R350 4Matic that I bought new on the latest 9-5, after two years of captaining a huge SUV I was eager to get rid of it. When I was looking for another car I couldn't find anything that had the combination of handling/speed/ride/interior room/fuel econ of the Saab 9-5 Aero Estate, I wish I had found one in a manual but the auto is actually quite well-suited to the 260hp engine as the boost doesn't drop on full throttle upshifts.
I was not a fan of the Dame Edna look, so one evening after a few too many Newcastles I decided to take all the chrome off the car and coat it with Plasti-dip. Doing this properly involved taking off the front bumper cover, a sight my wife didn't much care for when she came out to the garage looking for me the night before we were scheduled to drive to San Francisco (we live in Seattle). I quite like the look of the car now, but I'm not as offended by chrome Dame Edna's that I see around here.
