If the tank is drab full it gets messy pulling the pump out due to the gas being inside the bucket and that you have to wrestle with the pump to pull it out.
I guess you could loosen the pump ring and lift the pump just high enough to snake a hose in under the pump and siphon out gas or put as many towels as possible around the area and lift it out as it is.
You know the tank is under the floor board so all gasoline spilling on the tank will drain on the ground but it is all the gas inside the bucket and when it is lifted and tilted out that has a tendency to get on top of the floor board and under the carpet making a mess.
