Paragraph one is correct.
The key needs to be programmed for the car and cut for the car. The door locking buttons run on a battery in the key head that needs to be replaced. this is separate from the security feature. do a search here on replacing the battery. It is easy once you get through learning how to open it. best tip is a corkscrew tip of a bent probe. Batteries are very available.
Taping a programmed key somewhere may not work. The range on the security system is not long enough. The ring around the key hole is the antenna, and has very short range.
by the way, once you have the key head open, the battery comes out and the electronic almost fall out....so there is no big deal in replacing either in the key head.
