2001 Aero. Mainenance Recommendations Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 31 Oct 2012 08:43:49 In Reply to: Picking up 2001 Aero. Mainenance issues?, G. Sub Frame Bushings:
The model years notorious for failing sub-frame bushings were 2002 thru 2005. In 2006 Saab changed back to the 1998-2001 design, more or less, and improved them very slightly. At 12 years of age and 125K miles yours should be inspected but may still be OK. (I drove my 2000 for 318K miles and never changed these)
Fuel Pump:
The Saab fuel pump was available only as a complete assembly including fuel level sensor at a cost of $500. Once it was discovered the assembly contained a Walbro pump many people bought new $100 Walbros and spent considerable effort and extra parts replacing just the pump itself to save $400. It has recently been discovered that Walbro built the entire assembly, not just the pump! Walbro is now selling replacement assemblies under their own name for around $225. eEuroparts is one supplier carrying the complete Walbro assemblies.
Belt and Pullies:
New belt every 60K miles. New top idler (very easy to change) every 60K miles. New tensioner, tensioner pulley, and center pulley every 120K miles.
DIC:
Don't plan on ever using your Red DIC in a car with Trionic 7 engine management system. It won't work well, or long, and maybe never.
