I have a 2001 stick and a 2003 automatic Aero. My wife drives the auto because she has heavy traffic on her commute.
My son also has a 2004 Aero wagon auto. So I do get to drive both.
The auto is very nice and quite reliable, and shifts when it should.
The 5 speed manual got more rare as the years went by on the 95. My son was happy to find a manual when he bought his Aero.
I love the stick. A great modification is the Genuinesaab dot c shifter kit which is a precise steel bearing rather than the big plastic one for the shifter. Also the throw is 30% less. Install that and new shift bushings and adjust the shifter and your have a very positive tight shifter. Also a poly trans mount is also and improvement. Stock is good these modes make it terrific.
My engine also has a light flywheel so I don't get that slow drop of RPMs that is done for emissions and not driveablity.
Go for the Aero stick if you can find one......probably rare in 2005 and newer cars.
