I drive my 1999 9-5 SE for work and myself but I have 4 boys and no SUV short of a Suburban would work for our family. We looked a long time. Anything else has NO storage room behind the 3rd row seats. And as the kids get older and when the grandparents need to ride along (then needing 8 seats) my wife sits in the 3rd row and my mom sits in the middle and all SUVs have very high floors in the 3rd row so no adult can sit in them. I sat in 3rd row of a LandCruiser for a 3hr trip and was miserable. Like squatting on a rock. Believe me. We did NOT want a minivan but it was the wisest car purchase we ever made. We take 13-hr trips in it with 4 boys and a week of luggage and return with Christmas gifts and all INSIDE the car. No roof racks or hitch carriers. Again, I was not ready for a minivan. I had just sold my Porsche 911 Cabriolet the summer prior! We TRIED to convince ourselves the Pilot would work but we were having boy #3 soon and we eventually had 4 so glad we didn't. Our 2005 Odyssey just passed 100k miles. I just had the timing belt replaced today actually. This is the VERY FIRST PAID trip on this car to the dealer out of warranty...EVER!! In 8 years and 100k miles. The only other repair was at an indie for AC clutch coil. $250 total. Still has the original brake pads all around!! Been a few recalls fixed. Had some interior things done under warranty. Batteries, tires and such but no other repairs. I am a Honda believer now (even though it has no soul like a Saab of course). My Saab though by 100k miles (now with 200k) had essentially been 50% replaced part by part!! The '94 900s was terrible car. I still love my 9-5 though. The Gen 2 Odysseys do have tranny problems. 2005+ is Gen3 and I think 2011 was new Gen4. I actually looked the new ones over today and still like our 2005 interiors better than the new ones. And the Odyessey does not drive like a bus. It drives like an Accord. Suspension is in great shape at 100k. My guess is Toyo would serve as well but in 2005 we did not like the stylnig or interior of the Toyo and our local Toyo dealer was impossible joke. Good luck!!
