Well I took Swedecars advice that getting the wipers off the shaft is the biggest job. I tried a crappy bateery terminal puller and that did not fit in the space very wello. So I welded up my own puller. Worked well on the center wiper, but not on the driver side.
Spent too much time messing with it and finally did a bit of research and realized I needed a Lisle 54150 puller. Not on the Pep Boys website, but they had it in the store for $29.95 which as a bit steep, but I needed it now. This puller was perfect. It has two concentric fine threaded shafts. The outer one adjusts the width of the fingers. The center one applies pressure to the shaft. It grips the arm very tight and when you crank down on the center shaft the wiper shaft pops right off.
These are tapered splines, so the are on ther tight.
With the wipers out of the way the rest was easy. I had to vacuum out lot of leaves and debris. Soon I had the fan and motor out.
I bench tested the motor and it was quiet and worked well. no play in the bushings and the brushes were OK. The new fan motor I have did not seem to have the right mounting hole locations. And the plastic fan seems to be pressed on there. Basically I could not figure out how to install the new Bosch motor I bought from eEuroparts and the one That was in there was not noisy. Maybe it was debris making the noise.
I put it all back together and did a not of cleaning of all the parts. The wipers did not work.......so I had to reopen the drivers side and plug in the wiper motor connector duh!
Now I am an exper of fan R&R......and the fan is not noisy any more.
I am going to replace the filter next.
