Self-holding versus release taper Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Mon, 8 Apr 2013 08:08:11 In Reply to: Those darn conical splines, MI-Roger [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 7 Apr 2013 08:56:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It's a magic number where the angle on taper grabs and hold versus release the grip.
The NG900/OG9-3 doesn't have a problem at all unless corroded solid. I just remove the nut and wiggle the wiper arm back and forth until it pops off.
Tried that on the first 9-5 and that didn't work. After getting the puller and hearing the crack when it finally releases made me aware that no wiggle and pull in the world would ever get that arm off.
