It started misfiring and a few mints later it died, engine quit at 65 mph. Ironically, I was on my way to CarQuest to pick up my new DI. Another 2 miles and I would have made it. Last one threw two codes, so both time I did have at least 2-3 days of warning. Same with my 00 9-3, I went through 3 or 4 on that car over 13 years, always got a CEL as a warning before failure. Not the case with the red DI on my 94 SE, they just would die without warning.
SWEDECAR is right, the CPS and the fuel pump fail without warning, or that was the case on my 00 9-3, only two times it was towed. CPS went out at 120k, fuel pump at 150 k. So these items lasted longer than any of my DIs.
I would not let the DI be a show stopper. That is, if we can still find them.
