In my opinion the right way to repair it is the use is accepted method in the low voltage electrical world as the best splice method. This means soldering the wires and using heat shrink tubing over the splice. Stager the splices so they are not all in the same place. I did this 6 years ago with my 2001 and I have had no new problems.
This is the most certain way to do this.
You do need soldering skills, proper gauge and color of wire, heat shrink material and a heat gun.
There are 2 problems here.
1. the harness is too short
2. the bend is too severe in the "L" and bends the wire too severely.
If the "L" is broken, use a pice of poly tubing or silcone tubing instead of the L. put the wires inside and run one end into the rubber accordian and the other into the trunk hole.
I would not us crimp splices. they take up a lot fo room and can come undone.
