I assume you're expanding the spring, installing a shaft collar (or two, 180 degrees apart) on the spring, allowing the upper an lower coil to be spread by the shaft collar.
I envision a true spacer to have 360 degrees of coverage, either at the top or the bottom (or both) of the spring.
Perhaps for a sedan that you never load, but a Wagon/Combi that's loaded...
