Let me see if I can try to answer questions..always like to contribute here.
The rosebush won't fit the middle bushing?
I did not try to do anything with the middle bushings.. I imagine the
rosebush tool would still be able to press out some portion of the
bushing if you can get enough clearance on the top.
Was it necessary to use just the nut first and then the washer or could one just pull it out in one step?
Right..you could probably do it all in one step..I used the nut first to
press out the bushing cylinder..this left the sleeve which the washer
fit precisely.
You mention in one of your photos that the tool marred the subframe finish. Was that just from the pressing force?
I used a pry bar to pull the frame down a little. This scraped the
undercoating on the car body some. I should have put a rag underneath.
I sprayed some undercoating on it. Subframe itself seemed impervious.
Were all the bolt torque specs in the WIS?
The bolts came off surprisingly easy with my half inch bar. I had the
torque of the bolts at 74 ft/lbs from the board here..basically a little
less than wheel bolts. Disclosure though..my dealer had the subframe
off at some point (wish they replaced the bushings then)..so my bolts
were not rusted on from the factory.
Any problem getting the bolts out? I've heard that in Canada the middle subframe bolt is breaking on some cars due to rust.
No problems as my subframe had been out before but I'd say the middle
was the tightest and I saw quite a bit of rust on the threads and
plastic piece which is visible. I used a 13/16 socket as I could not
obtain a 20mm. Sprayed with liquid wrench. So the bolts turned out
easier than expected.
It sounds like jacking was half the battle and with a lift things could be much easier. Perhaps I should have bought a rosebush tool instead of borrowing one.
This was the highest I've had my frontend up..3 notches on the jack
stands but I was not fully under car most of the time.
How long do you think this might take a non-Saab indy with this or a similar tool?
I would think with a lift and if the indie wanted to cut the new
bushings like me..only the rear ...an hour or 2? I could not find
anyone to do just the rear..all estimates were drop the whole subframe.
