2004 Aero. Tensioner and it's pulley and belt were replaced by dealer 5 years ago at 60 k under CPO when tensioner actually failed and shredded the belt. The dealer just abandoned the center pulley and installed the short belt. The little idler that usually fails first had never been replaced.
Since I was installing new motor mounts, it was a good time to do this. I installed a new center pulley, idler, and tensioner pulley along with the long belt. The new pulleys, long belt and motor mounts really made the car shift and idle much more smoothly. Like a new car. Somehow even the subframe creak went away with the new motor mounts.
The motor mounts were in terrible shape. The pulleys all looked good, but now I am done with all of this for the next 60k or so. None of this stuff is fun for a roadside fix. You can do this now for less than the cost, and hassle, of a tow. If you have not done the motor mounts, you may want to consider this while you are at it. Most don't replace the bottom mount in back of the motor, it lasts longer than the others.
With my NG 900 and OG 9-3 I would never want to chance much past 60 k on the idler pulley. B Millar has some excellent instructions here on this topic.
