Advice for searching for/purchasing 9-5 ('04-'08)?

Hi guys,
My 9-3 was totaled and I'm considering buying a used 9-5 as an alternative to repairing it.
I know that depreciation has hit these cars hard, especially w. SAAB out of business now. But, it still seems that prices (asking prices at least) are still high. According to my research, a 2007 w/ ~50,000 miles should go for around $8,0000. Most ads I see for cars like those are asking much more $$. I assume there is a lot of negotiability in these prices? If my budget is around $8k, what can I realistically get? I could go a little higher if the car was worth it.
My parents had an '02 and later an '06 9-5 while I was still living home, so I am familiar with the car and the '02+ and '06+ improvements. I would like to focus on '04 plus to lessen the sludge concerns, and I have grown to not dislike the "dame edna" look so much.
Any advice on where to look? I will keep looking on the saabnet classifieds, but I was wondering where else to look. I scour autotrader, cars.com, etc...do these represent all dealerships' inventory...or could there be stuff locally hiding right under my nose?
Lastly, I'm guessing it is not a big deal at all to source a replacement valve cover, have it powder coated, and replace to original one...every car I see with the bare aluminum cover has it all corroded...that would drive me nuts...my 14 year old 9-3's engine was spotless.
thanks!!
Alex
