For me it's around $85 - chain + valve cover gasket, I'm not worth anything so there is no cost for my time.

Timing chains should last a long long time with good oil and on time oil changes. Dirty oil can wear a chain but with the Saab engine I suspect that the high engine operating temp can thin the oil and impact chain longevity. I had to roll in a new chain on my 1999 and that engine was run on dino and semi syn before Saab changed the oil spec - the higher the oil is rated for high temp conditions the better - hence the Mobil 0 - 40 recommendation.
I've seen engines with timing chains that were overheated and one of the results is premature wear to the chain.
