Engine would not start next AM.
Pulled the fuel pump assembly. Much easier with the tank opening "deburred" as in the main post.
Determined that the BMW hose is size on size with the hose bars, or a bit larger and the clamps simply cannot be tightened enough to get a seal. The BMW hose is a very hard material, appears to be similar to the Saab fuel line.
How I fixed the problem: I removed the hose and applied the hose clamps tightly to the hose and left in a sauce pan of boiling water for a while. Then repositioned the clamps and repeated. This shrunk the ends of the fuel line at the clamps. The fuel line was then a force fit after that. Reassembled with the double clamping and indexed the pairs of clamps so they were not lined up, so a 90 degree difference.
After that, the engine started right up. Then I replaced the fuel filter. That is straight forward, but its right behind the right rear jacking point, so that makes things awkward. Cycled the ignition to get 2 second fuel pump runs and start-up with a dry filter was surprisingly easy.
So using the BMW fuel line is not a great solution and I can't recommend it. I found the BMW fuel line reference in the forums here. But seem not to recall that the guy who made the post ended up using the original fuel line some how.
Other necessities: You should have a box of [large] nitrile "examination gloves" for work like this. They are fuel proof.
When you dump fuel from the pumps bucket, or drain an old fuel filter; you have fuel that you need to dispose. I found that the fuel exposed to the air became cloudy quite soon. I assume that that was moisture pickup from the air. So I would hesitate to use such fuel even if I could find a way to filter it. [I have "ethanol free" fuel. Perhaps a fuel with 10% ethanol would not have become cloudy.]
