I had what I thought a fuel pump issue, but it was actually the baffle inside the tank that was distorting the sensor. I had actually run out of gas. After ripping out the baffle, I went ahead and put in a new cassette since the car had 126k. Having replaced the motor on my 9000 fuel pump, figured I'd do the same with the new. Found out that motor was no longer avail.
Ordered the BB recommended walbro pump and BMW line and clamp kit, then spent a fair amount of time trying to sort out how it would go together. Nervous about the different size hose. The original is stiff too, but as you say can be easily softened with a bit of heat. Since all gas with this cassette was long evaporated, I used the original Saab line, a bit of heat and the clamp. Underscore a bit of heat. There was enough hose since I carefully cut it around the original motor. It looks secure, and is my backup.
Still have the BMW line and a couple of clamps if it doesn't work.
