no better winter beater than that... but don't subject a nice minty c900 to winter - waste of a classic now.
I'd probably suggest the newer 9-3 vs og9-3 only because of age and reliability at this point. 9-5 is a better touring car than 9-3, but so far, I have not been that impressed with it in snow (well, in SAAB terms), at least with the 2 sets of snow tires I've had on it so far (Nokian Hakka R and previously Michelin Primacy Alpin)... and the hakka R's are supposed to be very good. I think the 9-5's weight and dynamics make it ok, but not spectacular in snow. In contrast, our c900 with ancient hakka tires and no abs drives circles around the 9-5 (and just about anything on the road) in winter. I'd rather have that car than a subaru in snow. It's a tank, and it's cheap to insure and I don't have to worry if someone else dings it.
