2004 Aero erratic idle Posted by XLR99 [Email] (#1699) [Profile/Gallery] (more from XLR99) on Sun, 28 Sep 2014 11:19:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
As the title says, this issue developed on Thursday, and got worse Friday. Erratic or surging idle, and also some surging at low power and/or on the highway.
Current state of the car: 157k, I just did a service at 155k including new plugs, fuel filter etc. The DI is 'fairly new' I think 40-50k. Fuel pump has around 90k.
I noticed that it still performs fine at full throttle, both before and after my interventions to date. I'd think if the fuel pump were failing, it would be more obvious at high fuel flows (?)
No CEls yet, and I ran my generic OBD reader, which showed no hidden codes.
So far, I've cleaned the TB and MAF sensor and checked all the vacuum lines for leaks, including the line to the brake booster. I also tried swapping in the new AutoZone DI I have on the shelf, which had no effect.
After doing this, I had to go pick up a carful of football players; the car initially kept surging, then the symptoms disappeared after ~20miles of mostly highway driving.
This morning had to make a short trip, and the surge at idle is back, but not as severe. Not surging at low speeds, but still annoying!
Once the car cools down, I'm going to try swapping in spare CPS I have on the shelf. Can't see that it's been changed yet, and it's already in the garage. I'll also test the BOV, since someone in the past had a diaphragm failure that caused a vacuum leak.
