if so, what else did you need to do? I thought you already just shelled out for new snows etc for the 9-5? why shell out to repair, do all the work and then dump the car? or was that a list you were looking at?
If so, buying a newer 9-5 would at least let you keep the wheels + tires. Used 9-5's are cheap and maintenance costs are not higher than most other similar aged cars. Most of my Subie loving friends (it is a cult) have long ditched their year 2000 models due to tranny failures or HG failures. They spend way more on cars than we do even though their cars aren't really as nice to drive. That said, the raised ones (outback, forester, crosstrek) are great in snow. Have you looked at a Crosstrek? Or is it too small? Supposedly the new forester is much improved, but the circa 2009 one I drove was awful. Try to get a manual tranny if you can, and the turbo will likely be a big improvement also!
