Seems like 6-7 months out of the year I am using the 'LO" position, very high humidity and high heat where I live, can reach 120 F heat index in summer, so "LO" is used a lot here. I installed the Mackay bypass cluster of hoses a few years back, and my AC did not perform as well in hot weather as the OEM setup with the CBV, so maybe I am one of few who switched back. As crappy as the CBV is (I have had 2 replaced on an 04 Aero) it seems to do the job better when it really gets hot and humid.
Interestingly, my Ford truck has a similar setup...plastic junk which cracks and leaks about every 5 years...but much easier to get at. Can be replaced in 20 minutes.
Mackay bypass or plugging hoses may be fine in cooler climates. Just does not work as well in super hot and humid climes.
