I tend to agree, Snowmobile. I've spent a fair amount of time on the boards and on eEuro, FCPEuropean, GenuineSaab, looking for ideas and the DEC solution seems the most logical.
I learned that my car (and frankly I would suspect most Saabs in the US in the past 10 years or so) are California or 50 State compliant on emissions. Part of the reason I think that (1) mine is CA compliant, and (2) I have not seen a CA/non-CA distinction on GenuineSaab (i.e., factor) cats -- so they must be all CA compliant.
The only CA compliant one I can find is the DEC SA92931. It appears to be a straightforward bolt-in. I'm consulting with my Indy on his experience and recommendation, and will report back when I learn something.
The Bosal options are not available in CA-compliant models.
Just thinking.....I wonder if some of the issues other have reported about continuing to get codes with aftermarket replacements has been a CA/non-CA issue? My thinking is (and it is probably all wet) if the car is intended to be CA compliant (even if you don't live in CA), the computers are programmed to monitor compliance with the CA emission standards and flag issues when emissions are out of bounds. Would using a non-CA cat when the car is programmed for CA emissions standards maybe be the issue? There certainly seem to be a lot on non-CA options, at lower prices...Just a thought.
Anyway -- thanks for the thoughts so far, and any thought on the DEC product would be appreciated. It looks like it runs about $600, and I would receive it in a week or so, versus about $1,200 for Saab (and it doesn't seem to be available in the US warehouse right now).
What a pain ......
